Letting Agents in Wandsworth London SW18
Area Comments
A previously mainly working class area, Wandsworth is now extremely desirable and although it retains a raffish air, is very much upmarket. In fact, recent studies have shown that it contains more valuable property than almost anywhere else in London.
The reason for this isn't the excellent Edwardian mansions in the roads that lie in the middle of Wandsworth and Clapham Commons, although these are substantial and the most sought after of the central Wandsworth locations - and for families the most fiercely fought for homes in the area. The East Hill area is also popular, with large conversion apartments and excellent houses around. Great terraced houses, mostly Victorian, are plentiful in the Wandsworth Town area, near the bustling main streets. These areas are lovely, beautiful expanses of excellent period homes. But the properties that have helped Wandsworth grab the headlines recently are the truly magnificent apartment complexes that have been erected in recent years; riverside warehouse developments and bespoke apartment complexes that lord it over the Thames, staring over Wandsworth Bridge These are fantastic, futuristic properties with enormous waiting lists and views to die for - or if not to die for, then certainly to fork out serious money for.
But whilst these properties have pushed the average prices in Wandsworth up, the important thing to realise is that these stratospheric price tags do not affect the mainstream as much as it might appear. Whilst Wandsworth is very much more upmarket than it used to be, the price of 'normal' homes (for want of a better word) is still more affordable than comparable places in Battersea or Clapham, with whom Wandsworth forms a troika of very funky, very cool places to live in the region. You can still get excellent value on a wonderful property here, if you look hard and move fast.
Wandsworth's attractions are many and varied as the town has changed in the last couple of decades out of recognition. There are still great local pubs and little cafes in the streets around the High Street, as well as excellent upmarket gastropubs and bars. There are superb restaurants - Chez Bruce, Piccolino, Le Gothique amongst them. There are lovely places to be, such as the Common, Battersea Park and others; shopping is mostly done in the regenerated Southside centre.
Wandsworth contains seriously desirable properties and is no longer a 'cheap option'. It's very popular with media and city workers and desirability brings cost. But it still represents good value for money for the size and fitting of properties, compared to Battersea or Clapham - and if possible, is cooler, with better resources, than both.
