Commuters urged to sign online tube petition
Commuters living in property to rent in the London borough of Wandsworth are being urged to sign an online petition calling for more trains to be added to the District Line during peak hours.
Earlier this year, plans to discontinue weekday services to Olympia were announced.
The aim of this proposal was to allow up to five more morning rush-hour trains to be added to the Wimbledon line.
However, residents and businesses near Olympia are campaigning against the changes.
Councillor Russell King, Wandsworth's transport spokesman, is urging as many residents as possible to sign the petition by July 15th.
"Commuters travelling into Earls Court from Putney Bridge, East Putney, Southfields and other stations south of the river are sick of being herded in like cattle. We need these five extra morning peak-time trains," he said.
Earlier this week, the council announced that new ways of managing libraries in the borough are being investigated.
It said the aim is to protect local branches while improving the service that is being offered.
