Area Comments
It may have a small amount of river running past it, but Isleworth is definitely a Thames area. A fairly quiet, dreamy little area situated in Hounslow, Isleworth could be called quaint, but that ignores its potential as a place to live that attracts both young professionals and families.
There are great facilities here; it's a small place but is important enough to have a crown court. There's also a great library, good gyms and a swimming pool that's very popular with the locals. There are great restaurants and as the area develops more are coming; locals like the Red Lion or the Coach and Horses (right by Syon Park) are worth a trip, as well as The Swan in the village square, the Town Wharf, the Castle and others - this has long been an area with dockside association and this means good, old-established watering holes, most of which are now modern in approach, yet old in feel.
Transport is great into the city and out to the Richmond area. It's remarkable for its access to parks - as are many places in this neck of the woods. You're a quick walk to Syon Park, and it's easy to get to Richmond Park though a little further. Shopping is easy in the nearby supermarkets and there are good local shops in St Johns Road.
Local schools are famously good. This has been an area in the shadow of royalty and privilege for centuries and this appears to have rubbed off on local facilities; there are fantastic schools for both sexes at every level.
The houses here are set in very nice little roads, lined with trees. Around Osterly Park there are very large, imposing and desirable Victorian and Edwardian properties. There are very sought after little cottages and houses along the area's small amount of riverside space; move quickly for one of these! In the main, however, there are some very nice Victorian terraces running throughout the main housing tracts here, broken up with a few modern builds, particularly of flats - usually very good and well made - that are aimed at the first time buyer.
This is a slightly sleepy, mainly residential area that provides good access elsewhere. It's a place of parks, schools, and some lovely houses, all of which benefit from its small, but beautiful river exposure. If you've been looking at places like Twickenham or Teddington and want sleepy, unsnobbish areas without high prices, then include Isleworth in your search.
