Area Comments
Excellent, affluent suburb that's sporty, arty and full of amenities; Twickenham is the place for people who wanted Richmond quality but without the hefty whack in the wallet that the latter brings.
Twickenham is bordered by the Thames and Eel Pie Island - a lovely, distinctive watery landmark, and surrounded by lovely places such as St Margarets and Strawberry Hill, which are technically part of it. It's got excellent roads to the southwest and is good for the city.
This is a bustling, go-getting place, informed with the sports team spirit - Harlequins play here - that typifies the area, with team sports, watersports and others very popular and playing fields in abundance. Green space is found all about the place as well, with Bushy Park to the south, Richmond Park an easy distance to the east, and loads of playing fields, Strawberry Hill's golf course, and Marble Hill amongst others in the vicinity. Nobody goes without seeing a bit of field and tree in Twickenham.
There are excellent bars and pubs here, along the river and in the centre of the town, as well as super places to eat. Twickenham's busy centre has everything you might want, and Richmond is a step away if it's not enough.
There are lovely late Victorian terraces all over the Twickenham area, as well as fine stretches of midwar terraces and semis. There are a few conversions - most in the middle fo the town where it's more convenient for the single professionals and couples. Very large and/or very desirable homes are found in the Marble Hill area, particularly on the river, as well as in the beautifully-named Strawberry Hill. Everywhere is leafy and the town is filled with a forward-facing, can-do feel. It's a great place to be.
