£38m regeneration scheme for Twickenham
The London Borough of Richmond has approved a £38 million regeneration scheme for Twickenham.
The former site of West Middlesex University Hospital in Twickenham will now undergo the facelift in accordance with the vision outlined by English Partnerships.
Inspace Homes has been contracted to carry out the work, which will see the construction of 280 new homes including 94 specifically set aside for shared ownership or affordable rental schemes.
A further 80 of the properties will be made available exclusively to key workers through the London-Wide Initiative (LWI), a government-backed scheme that aims to provide homes to people working in the public sector.
Eleanor Purser, senior regeneration manager at English Partnerships, commented: "The LWI is an effective way of bridging the affordability gap and this major regeneration at Twickenham will offer a range of homeownership opportunities."
Flats for sale in London have seen runaway inflation over the past decade and analysts say this kind of scheme will make it easier for community workers to secure flats to rent in Twickenham.
