Sutton Council announces Take Part Take Pride summer festival
Sutton Council has announced its Take Part Take Pride summer festival.
The event features a number of organised activities for local people, including fairs and carnivals, shows, sports events and community picnics. A high number of these activities will be designed for the family and many of the events will be free of charge.
The authority has encouraged local people to plan their own activities as part of the Playing Out project. In this, people can familiarise themselves with their neighbours or offer things to do for kids in their street.
Anything from a street party to a game of sports can be organised at any point from now until September, with the only requirement being that any event is announced with six weeks’ notice in order to close any nearby roads.
Locals are encouraged to take part in The Big Lunch on Sunday June 7th. The aim of the project is to get as many people as possible throughout the UK to have lunch with their neighbours on the first Sunday of June as an annual activity.
The event initially began in 2009 and, since then, thousands of Big Lunches have taken part in communities across the country. In 2014, 4.83 million people took part in the event and Sutton Council wants the area to contribute greatly to the project.
In order to help people organise their Big Lunches, Sutton Council has made an application form available on its website and the authority has provided a range of guidance to help people go through the process.
Before starting their project, residents should firstly contact their neighbours and explain their intentions. Sutton Council has released a letter template to help them put together an informative and easy-to-read letter.
However, while roads may be shut, people living in the area need to have access to their properties, so you will need to have individuals at each end of the street to warn cars of closures.
