Area Comments
One of the strings of great commuter villages that throng the southwestern areas, Surbiton is pleasant, safe and offers great housing for families and professionals.
Property in Surbiton varies. It has some excellent little Art Deco flourishes, but is mostly divided between a good stock of 19th century town houses - very popular with families and with some conversions found; these houses are most notable in the Upper Brighton Road area and can be very large. As well as this there are the ever-present estates of 20th Century houses, mostly midwar semidetached, which form the mainstay of the local housing, but there are also some lovely 1930s detached houses of good size in the Southborough conservation area. Flats are best looked for around the Ewell Road area
Fantastic local schools are omnipresent here, catering to the families who form its main population. There are excellent walks along the river, Wisley Common is near, Richmond and Bushy Parks are close as is Hampton Court and the picturesque (literally, it inspired pre-Raphaelites such as Millais) Hogsmill Valley. Surbiton also has a great little centre with all the local shops and cafes, as well as bars and restaurants you might want.
With superb fast access into town and excellent resources, as well as really great family houses, Surbiton is set to be a favourite with families, parents and commuters for a long time to come.
