Area Comments
A superbly placed suburb of the Croydon area, Wallington is a steadfastly residential area and has unusually uniform property.
This is absolutely top notch commuterland, with a great rail station and access. It has good shopping, with supermarkets close by and some few good local stores - Wallington High Street is busy, friendly and has a good parade of shops and restaurants as well as some good locals. Of course, Croydon is very close, as is Sutton generally, Purley as well, so you're spoilt for choice for places to browse, as well as places to eat and drink. The nearest large green spaces are Roundshaw, along the Purley Way, and Banstead Downs.
Most of Wallington, which was constructed as a 19th Century railway suburb, is still Victorian as it was laid down. There are superb Victorian houses in the centre of the town near the station, though most of these if not all are converted into excellent flats. Elsewhere are Victorian houses of various sizes, especially in the Stafford Road and Mellows Park area. There are some purpose built, recent apartment blocks in the high street area as well, catering to the commuting professional and couples. There are also some 60s and 70s flats, many council or ex-council, in the eastern areas such as the Roundhaw Estate. Around the important Woodcote Road there are some lovely Edwardian homes that are very imposing, set back with excellent gardens.
Wallington is a superb choice for families and first timers, with its predominately Victorian housing as well as some great flats and apartments.
