Area Comments
A wonderful suburb for families, or for anybody looking for great space amid a lovely, varied area, Forest Hill is lofty, relaxed and filled with good houses.
Views are splendid in the Forest Hill area, straddling as it does the South Circular as it leads from Catford up to Dulwich. The area is at the point of a hill, and thus it's easy to get property that gives a view either south or north. It's correspondingly light and airy, with long, sloping streets that glide up and down the incline and make the place feel almost as if you're not in London at all.
There are great local shops down in the flattening part of the area to the south; cafes and restaurants of a very reasonable budget are found towards the south, as well as excellent supermarkets. The area is very leafy and tree-lined, and there are good parks nearby - Crystal Palace is close, as is Dulwich Common, both areas providing a huge array of shopping and eating alternatives catering for more eclectic and aspirational clientele. Other attractions include most spectacularly and famously the Horniman Museum, one of the best and certainly the most particular museum in London, and a great resource of education and knowledge, as well as for days out.
Houses here are pushed tight together but feel spaces out owing to the drop of the hill. On the south circ itself the terraces 19th Century properties are big enough to give good privacy and quiet even though bypassed by the road. Off the main streets more Victorian semis and terraces retreat away from the road. Both the properties closer to the main road and further away can be found either subdivided into large flats or as whole properties, with the desirability increasing the farther from the South Circular they are.
Huge Victorian properties offer amazing accommodation for professionals as well as particularly for families in the area, and anyone moving here will be charmed by the views, the space and the quiet and friendly lifestyle. This is a great bet for the family looking to get a good deal and more space.
