A satellite of Croydon, Selhurst is in the midst of other good southwestern suburbs such as South Norwood and Thornton Heath. It has a distinct identity, partly given to it by virtue of being the home of Crystal Palace FC. Though mainly a residential neighbourhood, Selhurst has some good local stores and supermarkets nearby.
This is a bustling little multicultural community, with a good number of small independent shops as well as some very popular local restaurants in the Selhurst Road and Whitehorse Road area. Along with the huge variety of green spaces nearby, Selhurst has its own little park, Heavers Meadow, which is popular with locals.
Housing in Selhurst is like much of the area a mix of Victorian and Edwardian; it contains a good mix of little streets leading off the main areas, relatively quiet and safe, lined with a variety of semis and terraced housing. The area is very popular as an alternative to Norwood, a competitively priced commuter area that gives great value for money.
