A great value for money suburb snuggled in by the side of Norwood and Selhurst, Woodside is one of the best places to look in the Croydon area if you're after a relative bargain.
Based around the lovely little Woodside Green, the area is mainly residential - naturally enough given that it's essentially a suburb of Croydon and the huge resources of the nearby town make it unnecessary to have a large civic centre. But Woodside nevertheless has a good selection despite this, with a nice parade at the end of Woodside Green and in Portland Road. Here there are a wide selection of stores, many of which are popular local traders and independents. There is also a good collection of great restaurants and cafes, and very popular local pubs. But still, if you don't find what you want here, it's a very simple trip to the Whitgift Centre in Croydon.
Well served in terms of transport, the area is set nicely amongst the surrounding suburbs and has more nearby green space than many. It is slap bang next to South Norwood Country Park, and there is a good range of playing fields and grounds nearby, excellent local schools and well respected hospitals close at hand.
Though relatively competitive next to many of the southwestern suburbs, Woodside is still a solid place to look for a home and most properties are excellent. Whilst there are some super Victorian villa-style houses seen in and around the area, most if not all of these are subdivided. Most of the whole properties here are divided between semidetached and terraced houses from the midwar period, but there are also some well made purpose built flats.
With a pleasant local feel centred on its green, and huge amenities nearby as well as great value for money houses, Woodside is an excellent place to look if you're a family needing a bit of change, a commuter or just someone looking for a peaceful place to live without breaking your bank.
