Area Comments
The workers in the Docklands demand a great deal from their leisure and from their housing. Those who are choosing to live near their work want a lot for their (considerable) investment, and property in the Docklands area matches this expectation.
Development of London's Docklands accelerated from the 1980s, as the area began to reach toward its goal of challenging the City for financial supremacy. The residential spaces available at the start were slight, but are now featuring some of the most desirable apartments and penthouses in London at the centre of Docklands, with houses and more traditional flats in outlying Docklands areas. As the original developments on the Isle of Dogs and Mudchute themselves have become saturated, development of other areas such as Wapping and Limehouse, and south of the river into other Docklands districts in the northern shores of Greenwich have pushed ahead. The latter is still very much in development, but across the entire Docklands area the level of accommodation is exceptional and rising with demand.
In the centre of Docklands one is likely to find superb apartments with amazing views across the river to Greenwich and towards Canary Wharf. There are more affordable, but still substantial, apartments in Wapping and Limehouse, where there are also gentrified areas of these formerly downbeat locales with superior townhouses. Developments in the northern areas of Greenwich (also part of the Docklands milieu) see new builds and renovations galore. These outlying areas are more affordable, but still substantial, investments. However the real heart of Docklands around the Isle of Dogs contains the real gems - truly beautiful and desirable apartments available to a very select few.
Living in any of these areas is dynamic, though of course in the very centre of the Isle and Canary Wharf the pace is very hectic, calming a little as one settles in the outlying Docklands areas to the west in Limehouse or across the river in Greenwich's Docklands areas.

Docklands: Dock in at your new place or it will not get put into Docklands on Net-lettings
The once much-maligned London Docklands is fast making a reputation for itself as a residential hub, as well as the centre of the UK's financial economy. Once the largest port in the world, the shipping offices and warehouses that once dominated the area have largely given way to skyscrapers and new-build houses. Huge cranes once used for unloading cargo are now motionless in their cradles, but this doesn't mean the area has lost any of the fizz and bustle it possessed while it was a shipping hub.
