Area Comments
Excellent large houses and a good little town centre makes Highbury one of the best options nearer the centre of town for families looking for large amounts of space.
Though as close to the Angel and Islington as five minutes by bus (and not that much longer to walk) Highbury has excellent resources. There are great buses and tube services, as well as a wealth of places to eat, both at the upper end of the scale (and if you want more of that, it's a tiny trip to Islington), and the more funky cafes, as well as plenty of splendid local pubs, many of which have been excellently modernized in recent years. It's easy to spend a good evening in Highbury. There are great parks to walk around in, as well as easy shopping in local stores as well as nearby supermarkets.
There are beautiful houses here. Large, several storey townhouses soar out of very wide, safe streets. Many of these of course have been subdivided into flats, some of which are opulent in size. These Italianate villas - along with the stadium - are possibly the most distinctive part of Highbury's residential architecture, and represent its most grand and lovely homes. There are however plenty of other choices here - there are later Victorian terraces in the north of the area, as well as (since WWII) more municipal housing. The stadium itself, once the home of Arsenal and now a residential development, is just part of a new stage in Highbury's regeneration which is keeping this housing market robust.
