Plans for new Highbury Roundhouse developments outlined
People in flats to rent in Highbury have seen plans to redevelop the current site of the Highbury Roundhouse community centre take another step forward.
A new planning brief has been put forward for approval by the council's executive committee, following consultations with locals on plans to create a new purpose-built community centre for the area.
This would allow the Highbury Roundhouse area to be used for building affordable housing, although residents have made it clear that the preferred location for the new facility is in its existing position at the rear of the site.
Other revisions made to the brief, which will be submitted for approval on February 7th 2012, including the provision of extra protection for neighbouring Olden Garden and residential amenities.
Paul Convery, Islington Council's executive member for planning regeneration and transport, said: "Local people have played a big part in shaping this planning brief, which underlines our commitment and outlines what we expect to see on the site."
Highbury Roundhouse was set up in 1974 and offers services and activities for locals such as playgroups, social clubs, lunches, music classes and karate.
