You're never far from the wonderful shops and cafes and restaurants of Islington and the Angel, as well as the excellent local stores of Kentish Town and the extreme cool of Camden, and you're not far from the lovely views of Highgate. But Tufnell Park, as it becomes more popular with the urban middle class to whom living away from the centre of the city would be anathema, has an energy all its own. This is seen in the pride with which locals - both longterm and new incomers pushed out of more expensive areas - take in the gradual gentrification that's taking hold. New gastropubs and trendy little bars are appearing in out of the way streets as well as on the main thoroughfares such as Tufnell Park Road, Fortess Road and Brecknock Road, offering great nightlife and eating out opportunities; great cafes are providing real alternatives to schlepping into Camden or Islington; though Tufnell Park used to be a place you passed through on the way to these areas, now it's somewhere people are travelling to.

Houses here come in a few flavours. There are excellent blocks of flats, both purpose built as well as some ex-council areas. As well as this, there are lovely, quiet streets (very like those of Angel or Highbury) of tall, very well maintained Victorian terraced houses. The Holloway Road is the key, with the general rule being that the further you move from it, the higher the prices of these houses.
