Beautiful properties in a secluded location, with easy access to town, make Canonbury forever sought after by any North London cognoscenti.
To an extent a spur on the boot of Highbury, Canonbury sits slightly to the south of the former and slightly north and east of Islington's main drags. It's framed by St Paul's Road, Canonbury Road and of course Essex Road, one of the most famous in the area.
To live in Canonbury means getting exposure to the dining, bars and cafes of the Islington set as well as being part of a slightly more recherché Highbury milieu; in both areas the shopping varies from local produce to high end independent design, with more in the way of charming local cafes provided by Highbury (along with a teeny weeny bit of "football"), and the higher end eateries and 'be seen' joints in Islington.
Canonbury's properties must be seen to be fully appreciated. Few concentrations of such high quality streets are found in the area, with rows of lovely Georgian mansions and townhouses in plenty lining the quiet, leafy streets. A few twee, but extremely desirable, rows of artisan's cottages are also to be found. Canonbury Square is of course the spiritual and architectural heart of this secluded and protected area, with its tall, elegant Georgian townhouses amongst the finest and most desirable. There are also apartments and maisonettes, mostly converted from larger properties. In all cases the level of appointment can be expected to be high, and the competition pretty fierce.
A quiet and secluded area that contains wonderful houses and apartments, Canonbury provides excellent access to the funky and fashionable Islington/Highbury areas but without the occasional noise and rush.
