Islington Council supporting families with new initiative
A new survey has been launched in Islington that will offer support to families in the borough.
The scheme is called Families First and it is aimed at children between the ages of five and 18. Islington Council and charity Family Action are in charge of the project, which is hoping to act as a one-stop shop for advice and support.
Parents checking out property to rent in Islington may want to learn more about the service. The biggest benefit is that it offers individuals a single contact, instead of forcing individuals to talk to a series of different organisations.
Councillor Richard Watts, Islington Council's executive member for children and young people, noted the local authority is keen to make sure kids get the right start in life.
"Families First is an exciting new way of working with families, drawing on the expertise of lots of different services. It will now be much easier for local families to get the right type of support for them, helping them to work out their priorities and improve life for them and their children," he added.
Elaine Sheppard, Families First Islington manager, noted it can be hard to keep on top of everything and that is why they are delighted to be launching in the borough. She remarked the new service will see people liaise with families in their own community.
Three teams will be based in Barnsbury and Finsbury, Highbury and Hornsey and Holloway and Canonbury. A series of professionals will be on hand to give advice.
Another benefit for the community has been the clean-up operation at Hillside Park. The green space, which is located in the north of Islington, now features a ball games area and some natural playthings for kids.
As part of the revamp, a crackdown is going to be launched on anti-social behaviour. The work is also making the location more open and visible to act as a deterrent to anyone considering making trouble.
