Letting Agents in Holloway London N7, N19
Area Comments
A vibrant residential area that's deceptively filled with nice places to live and be, Holloway provides a huge mixture of housing solutions.
Holloway is a very alternative to the comparatively pricey areas of Highgate and Highbury. Busy and thriving, Holloway has a great shopping and business economy. There are good places to eat everywhere, at both ends of the scale from upmarket to the cheap and cheerful. It's famous of course for its prison, which has housed felons as celebrated as Emily Pankhurst and Oscar Wilde. It's still an arty, media place, with writers and journalists and TV people living here. And of course, this is the home of Arsenal, since their move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium, ironically built on the site of a rubbish recycling plant - a development that has in many ways become the symbol of Holloway's regeneration.
That regeneration has seen Holloway begin to catch up with other Islington areas; the Mercers Road and Tavistock Terrace conservation areas are becoming more and more gentrified, and there are really good developments of luxury accommodation between the Emirates Stadium and Caledonian Road. The more traditional Holloway area of the Nags Head is also moving forward, though not losing its traditional London roots.
Most of the property on the market tends to be mid-19th Century houses. Many of these are subdivided, but all are commanding good prices nonetheless. Holloway is a place of contradictions still however - the main roads tend to be noisy, but off them there are pleasant roads. There are flats in the council blocks and Victorian terraces that provide excellent amounts of garden and space. Archway Road is best for the large home offering families a good deal.
