Widespread, with a great bustling centre and excellent roads around it, Wood Green is now an accepted alternative to Crouch End or Muswell Hill, but blends similar great roads with a much more multicultural and varied feel.
Though technically a suburb, Wood Green has the busy energy of a truly urban district, even though it's as open as any suburb beyond its centre, which is active enough for a small town. The centre of Wood Green has an excellent shopping area, with Shopping City dominating and surrounded by other stores. The are also has a popular cinema. The Broadway is bracketed by Wood Green tube to the north, and the busy Turnpike Lane station to the south. The main streets leading away from the centre south are lined with excellent restaurants and cafes, many catering to a huge variety of cultures and cuisines, and there are a huge variety of cafes and eateries, as well as good bars, along the main streets.
Wood Green is very close to the beautiful and lofty Alexandra Park and Lordship Recreation Ground, and close enough to Muswell Hill and Crouch End to count their resources as its own, with their wider and more eclectic, upmarket restaurants, boutique shopping and classy nightlife a very distance away.
The roads around Wood Green - to the east, Lordship Lane, to the north Green Lanes and Bounds Green Road - split off into some lovely little streets with excellent properties that are nevertheless very competitive in comparison to those of nearby areas. Large areas of Victorian terraced houses set the pace, with some larger homes towards Hornsey, where also you'll find modern apartment developments. There are also conversions to be found in many streets.
Extremely energetic, yet away from its centre a fairly quiet and calm place to be, Wood Green has excellent resources and great houses for first timers and families.
