New park almost complete in Norwood Green
Residents living in Norwood Green will soon be able to enjoy a brand new green space, which is due to open in just a few months.
Work began to transform an unused piece of land in the area into a public park in October this year and Ealing Council has confirmed that the project is almost complete.
It will border the historic road, rail and canal crossing known as Three Bridges and will feature a pathway that winds down towards the canal.
There are a number of unique features in the park, including a seating area formed by wooden letters spelling out the words Three Bridges and a number of newly planted trees and native hedges.
A mound has also been formed in the centre of the green space using material that was excavated on the site, and in the spring this is expected to bloom with poppies, daisies and wildflowers.
The land was abandoned several years ago and was once home to the Sea Cadets. It has a rich past, and one that Ealing Council is keen to keep alive.
That's why it applied successfully for a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant that will enable it to research the history of Three Bridges and its surroundings.
Information will be gathered by local school and community groups, as well as volunteers, and used to produce a downloadable podcast and outdoor information boards.
"The transformation at Three Bridges is truly remarkable and soon it will be a great place to relax and soak up local history," said Bassam Mahfouz, Ealing Council's cabinet member for transport and the environment.
"The HLF project will be a great way to uncover and preserve the site's interesting history as well as involve local people in a fantastic community project."
It is expected that the park will open to the public in March, not only benefitting local residents but also boosting the appeal of property to rent in Norwood Green.
