Area Comments
In the far west of London, Perivale sits alongside the A40, a busy residential area that's also the home of some of London's largest business parks. A huge employment area, Perivale has been a big winner from the housing boom of the last few years and is now very sought after by young professionals, attracted by its speed of access to the centre of town, the West and M25, and competitive prices.
Very green, Perivale sits among the wide open spaces as West London peters out into Middlesex, and there are two large golf courses nearby, as well as the huge open space of Horsenden Hill, which offers stunning views over London. The Grand Union Canal also offers excellent walks and views, and the ancient Perivale Wood.
There are great pubs here, a good number of them catering to families, and a very busy community centre which hosts a huge number of activities popular with locals. Landmarks include the iconic Hoover Building (now a Tesco, but maintained in its wonderful Art Deco style), as well as the beautiful 12th Century St Mary's Perivale Church. Shopping is easy at the local supermarkets in Bilton Road, and local schools have undergone a rapid regeneration in recent years. Perivale is like much of West London very cosmopolitan, a huge range of cultures and a thriving Asian community. Local amenities include excellent grocery and goods stores.
The housing boom of the last decade has seen Perivale's housing undergoing a general renovation. The houses here are mostly mid war and later, but there are some of the 1930s build houses that really began the area's expansion, and there are some purpose built blocks nearby for those looking for flats. In general it's a place for the small-medium family home, some terraced, some semis, on quiet little roads - perfect dwellings for the young families and professionals who are moving into the area. It's a place that's often overlooked, but behind the M40 and the Hoover Building is a busy little suburb that offers excellent value for money, as well as a host of hidden treasures.
