Area Comments
Abutting Tottenham Court Road, just above Soho and sliced off from Marylebone by Portland Place and Great Portland Street, Fitzrovia is calm, quiet, an excellent mix of offices and residential buildings.
This is a playground for media and fashion, both of which industries have set up in the area in a big way. Dozens of little boutiques and cool, trendy stores are here, as well as a huge number of TV and film companies and the industries around them. The area has as a consequence a huge amount of restaurants and bars, its quiet streets full of coffee shops and excellent traditional pubs. Other facilities are as close as you could wish - infinite shopping, entertainment etc in Oxford Street and the West End. The Goodge/Mortimer St and Charlotte/Cleveland/Whitfield Street area is the best for shopping in the little stores that line the roads of Fitzrovia proper.
Whilst there are a lot of offices here there's a great deal of housing as well - it's about an even split. Wishing for a whole house around here will be a long and probably fruitless endeavour - almost all whole buildings are offices. There are excellent flats almost everywhere you look. The area is home to some magnificent mansion blocks, as well as enormous townhouses, subdivided into excellent flats; Fitzrovia is architecturally interesting, like neighbouring Soho and Marylebone, and as well as the huge roads it's defined by there are lots of little alleys, squares and mews areas. There are excellent apartments all over the region, from the mighty Victorian mansions, huge townhouses and some new developments in the Whitfield area. There are also some newer Hoxton-style loft conversions appearing in the Portland Street locale.
Fitzrovia is much quieter than Soho and more office based than Marylebone, but its excellent flats sit in an excellent little region which has a huge amount to offer.

Fitzrovia: Variety aplenty
In central London, few places feel more foreign than Fitzrovia. The district, as well as its close neighbour Bloomsbury, is the closest a London resident can get to living in a European city. Of course, you'll have to excuse the chronic lack of sunshine, but the combination of close cobbled streets and extravagant squares gives Fitzrovia a definite Barcelona-esque feel. Its location in central London - lodged between Bloomsbury and Marylebone - makes it ideal for those who prefer their conveniences … well, convenient. You can work, shop and eat within just a few streets of where you live. Perfect.
