Area Comments
Supremely central, fabulous for access, but with considerable privacy and peace for an area deep in the heart of London, Finsbury (not to be confused with Finsbury Park) has emerged from its dark and industrial park and is now an extremely fashionable place to live.
Occupied for centuries and hugely developed during the industrial explosion of London, Finsbury was for much of its life occupied mostly by the newspaper and print trade. It's now a place filled with light and music with a huge range of restaurants, cocktail bars and pubs - both diehard locals and funked-up modern gastropubs rub shoulder to shoulder; in the summer, outside drinking and chat is a big social must. This is an area popular with city workers looking for more space and nightlife than that immediately available in the true City area, but also with media, TV, film and other funky young professionals: anyone who needs or wants to live close to the city is likely to admire its nightlife, buzz and energy. Open space is of course at a premium, but there are some nice greens and squares, and the place is always filled with people - it's a good area to walk and feel part of things.
Despite this the property here makes one feel enclosed, safe and above all, private. This is an area that specialises in apartments of various size and levels. There are large gated complexes and towers, as well as beautiful loft and warehouse developments affording stunning views across the Dickensian maze of roofs and terraces of this old part of the city. These beautiful newer developments are very desirable indeed. But there are also some excellent Georgian terraces, in the neighbourhood between St John Street and Farringdon Road; these are amongst the most popular and desirable in the area, as true houses are small in number.
A playground of the young professional - both the establishment City types and the devotees of the new economy - Finsbury is friendly, funky and most definitely a place to be seen.
Close to fashionable Clerkenwell, there are excellent restaurants and pubs and a lively atmosphere. Modern developments are becoming more prevalent as the area reputation grows.

This is, after all, where more people travel to work than will ever live - around 300,000 suits commute in every day, mainly for the financial sector. Considering just 7,000 people live here, you might expect it to be a bit of a ghost town after everyone goes home, but this is far from the case. After dark and at weekends, the Square Mile remains a hive of excitement and a hub of activity. Read on to discover whether this fantastic location will suit you.
