Finsbury: London's new 'in' place to live
Finsbury is fast becoming a desirable place to live in London. Whilst the area's old reputation may not have been overly positive, it is now becoming one of the hottest places to live in London. Located right in the middle of Crouch End and Islington, the mostly residential area has had an influx of people wishing to live in the convenient location.
With good transport links, Finsbury is popular with those who need to commute into different areas of the city. It is also a good place for families as it is incredibly close to a number of parks - including one of the largest in London - and some good quality family eateries.
Investments throughout Finsbury are allowing more homes to be built in the culturally vibrant area, perhaps adding to its recent popularity amongst those wishing to enjoy the feel of small town living whilst working in the capital. Despite this growing interest in Finsbury, living costs are still very reasonable and it is quite an affordable place for those wishing to build their own business.
Where to live
The majority of Finsbury is dominated by residential housing so there are many different areas to choose from. The streets that are located in close proximity to Finsbury Park Station boast impressive and lovely Victorian style properties, offering a good choice of terraced houses with excellent transport links.
There are also several housing estates and some more affordable housing options as you move away from the station. Whilst these houses don't offer the same level of convenience when it comes to travel, they quite often offer a larger space for lower rent, making the distance worthwhile.
Things to do
As the area is mostly residential there isn't much night life. However, whilst there is a shortage of clubs there are many pubs to choose from, most of which embrace the idea of a small town community. There are several styles of pubs to choose from; whether you like to drink in a cosy, traditional pub or prefer the good food of a gastro pub, there is something for everyone. There are also some good options for the summer months as several of the drinking establishments have outdoor areas where you can enjoy an evening drink in the sunshine.
As well as pubs there is a good range of retail options, restaurants and takeaway places. Along Stroud Green Road you will find a wide range of different cuisines, making it the ideal place to visit no matter what you're in the mood for.
The shops in Finsbury tend to be quite small and there is not really a high street as you would find further into the city. There are still some good places to visit so it's definitely worth having a look around. In terms of food shopping, there are three supermarkets in the area that are quite easy to get to.
Green space
Finsbury Park is one of the largest green areas in the City of London, offering you a huge 110 acres of outdoor space to enjoy. It is a great place for those who enjoy sports and outdoor activities as it has a running track and tennis courts, as well as both indoor and outdoor gym facilities. The park can get you as far as Highgate, offering a green travel route away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The park is also open to cyclist, providing you with a safer shortcut if you cycle to work.
