Brent Council teams with Brent Housing Partnership in new project
Brent Council has partnered with the Brent Housing Partnership as it aims to improve the standard of housing for local people.
The two groups have teamed up to roll out the £40 million Capital Works programme, which was announced at the Talkback forum for homeowners at Brent Civic Centre. The theme for this event was “delivering improvements to your homes”.
It focused on explaining the Capital Works Programme and how it can have a positive impact on residents. At the moment, around £17 million of investment is being undertaken by Wates Living Space, which is aiming to introduce a range of external repairs.
These include roof covering replacements, windows, external walls and external re-painting. At the event, there was a short presentation about the programme and then residents focused on three specific topics in workshop groups.
It focused on how the BHP can get more residents involved in monitoring the programme and how the BHP can guarantee residents are involved with the initiative in their home. The third of these topics was how the BHP can guarantee the project is successful.
Councillor Margaret McLennan, lead member for Regeneration and Housing at Brent Council said: "This £40 million Capital Works programme represents the highest level of investment in council homes in over a decade in Brent and is part of a £160 million programme to maintain and improve the council's housing stock across the borough over the next seven years.
"Through working in partnership with BHP, Wates and local residents, we can help make Brent an even more attractive place to live."
Peta Caine, director of operations at BHP, also commented on the event, noting that it was great that such a high number of residents at Talkback declared their views and offered opinions on the subject.
Mr Caine added that residents will be kept involved in the whole process, with the council continuing to seek feedback.
