Mitcham Carnival announced for June
Mitcham Carnival has been announced for Saturday June 13th at Three Kings Piece.
The event will mark Merton’s 50th anniversary as a London borough, with this year’s theme being “Back to the Swinging Sixties”. As part of the event, Britain’s Got Talent finalist James Smith will be playing live, and there will be entertainment from Future Pro Wrestling.
As well as this, Adams Axeman, the longest running lumberjack display team in Britain will be performing. There will also be a family fair on-site, where there will be more than 120 charity and trade stalls.
Another part of the carnival is Sports Blast, which will offer children the chance to play football, netball, BMX and other sports across the day. All the skills learnt during this time can then be put into practice at a Little League Tournament.
On the other hand, residents who are interested in baking have been invited to “get baking for Merton” and highlight their talents to mark the town’s 50th anniversary.
Mayor of Merton, Councillor David Chung said: “I look forward to celebrating Merton’s 50th Anniversary with the local community at the carnival this year. Mitcham Carnival is always packed full of activities for people of all ages to take part in and have fun. It is a fantastic way to start the summer.”
Cabinet member for community and culture Councillor Nick Draper also commented on the event, noting that there is something at the carnival to “suit everyone’s interests”.
“If you enjoy playing sport and are looking to learn and develop your skills, make sure you check out Sports Blast for a variety of sporting activities,” Mr Draper added.
Locals are encouraged to attend the event and can even start up their own stall if they want to contribute to the day’s events with catering or non-catering services.
