New fitness centre set to open in Manor Park
A new fitness centre is expected to be opened in Manor Park by Newham Council.
The facility is designed to help locals become fit and active in an affordable way. It will open its doors on Monday June 1st and is set to provide excellent gym equipment and fitness lessons.
The gym will be developed on old Greenhill Community Centre, which will be managed by ActiveNewham, who are set to work with the authority to deliver leisure, sports and volunteering options throughout the borough.
As well as this, the centre will be one of the first to include an outdoor multigym, featuring a climbing net, pull-up bars and a range of other machines that aim to help people boost their strength.
Gym members will also be able to capitalise on 50 exercise machines, a large well-equipped free weight area, a stretching area and a group cycling studio.
Councillor Ian Corbett, mayoral advisor for environment and leisure, said: “We are committed to enhancing the quality of life for all of our residents and their future generations.
“The benefits of regular exercise are hard to ignore. It can help boost energy levels, control weight, and prevent a wide range of potential health problems including high blood pressure and diabetes.”
Mr Corbett went on to say that the centre has “something for everyone” irrespective of age or level of fitness. The gym is not the only new facility for local communities, as several improved facilities have been introduced for local communities.
He emphasised that the new programme is aiming to allow people to become fitter and healthier.
The centre will be open between 6:30am and 10:30pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 8pm on Sunday and Bank Holidays.
ActiveNewham is offering a lifetime membership of £14.45 per month for anyone who signs up before Sunday May 31st. After this date, the monthly membership will be £15.95 and there will be no joining fee or contract.
