Area Comments
Lying to the west of Chingford and Waltham Forest lies Edmonton. It's an area that has been settled for a long time and provides some of north London's best value accommodation.
Edmonton is well connected to the city but provides excellent space to bring up a family, or simply because you want room to breathe in an inner-city environment. It's a short distance to Trent Park and the local Pymmes Park is renowned for its walks. There are fantastic wetlands in the area and plenty of wildlife with three of London's biggest reservoirs close by to the East. There are good local primary schools and secondaries - amongst them the excellent Latymer School - as well as great playgroups and supportive networks for parents.
Shopping in the area has been developing and Edmonton Green, once a slightly faded backwater, now provides excellent shopping for almost any need. Local dining and entertainment are also very well developed now that the busy local scene has been fused with the cafes and eateries demanded by the middle class influx.
Property in Edmonton tends towards the latter part of the Victorian era as a starting point - despite the fact that the area has been continuously inhabited since the 1400s and its oldest church, All Saints, is from this period. There are also early 1900s houses, as well as mid-war semis. Tower blocks still survive here and ex-council flats may be available. All are very affordable, considerably better than most other places, which is why the area is so popular with the first-timer and those seeking more bang for their buck, size-wise.
