Edmonton Green leisure facilities to be overhauled
Leisure, art and retail facilities in Edmonton Green are to be drastically improved thanks to a new regeneration plan.
Enfield Council is currently drawing up the Edmonton Green Masterplan, which will see a range of restaurants, shops and open spaces developed. It is hoped more shoppers will be encouraged to visit the location off the back of the scheme.
It means anyone looking at property to rent in Edmonton in the near future will see the city undertake a radical overhaul. An eco development planned at Meridian Water will see some £1.8 billion sank into it alone.
Councillor Del Goddard, the cabinet member for business and regeneration, said: "Our plan looks at all aspects of developing Edmonton Green from creating jobs to improving transport links, getting a wider range of shops into the area and improving the public spaces."
He added the area will receive a massive boost from the work being carried out. Ultimately though, the council is looking input from the local residents, as they will be the ones most affected by the plans.
Among the issues to be covered by the masterplan are: traffic and transport issues, identifying possible development sites, plans to improve the city centre and funding and investment options. Improvements have already been scheduled for North Square, while the flood provisions at Salmons Brook and Montagu Recreation Ground are also going to be enhanced.
The council is in the middle of freeing up additional income for extra school places. Some 99 children from Enfield could not be offered a spot for the upcoming school year and so an effort is being made to make sure this situation does not develop again.
Councillor Ayfer Orhan, cabinet member for schools and children's services, said, "We understand the expectations of local parents and are grateful for their patience while we make arrangements to finalise the current admissions round." She added the local authority has been surprised by the increase in the pupil population.
