Enfield £1.3bn masterplan unveiled
A masterplan has been unveiled that will see a 200-acre site in Enfield regenerated as part of a £1.3 billion plan.
The location - which is situated beside North London's Lee Valley Regional Park - is to be known as Meridian Water. It will see 5,000 new homes built and 3,000 jobs created, as well as three schools and a range of supporting community services and a high street.
Once the project has been completed, property to rent in Enfield should be easier to come by. Londoners will be given the chance to experience canal and riverside living thanks to the scheme, while the local parkland and recreational spaces will also be improved.
Enfield Council's cabinet member for business and regeneration Councillor Del Goddard - who is the Labour representative for Palmers Green - was full of praise for the programme.
"Meridian Water is the most significant contribution to the transformation of Edmonton and it will play a significant role in driving the expansion of North London for decades to come. It will overcome years of decline and will create a fantastic waterfront development that people will be proud to call their home," he added.
Colin James, director of urban design at LDA Design - which has overseen the masterplan - said the development brings the vision of high-class housing one step closer. He added there will also be a strong sustainable aspect to it, as energy efficiency is promoted.
"The aim here is to give people the experience of waterside living and working while being in easy reach of the rest of the city through better transport links," Mr James added.
Under the terms of the plan, a comprehensive district heating network is to be installed that will see waste heat redirected to houses. Improving transport infrastructure is also at the heart of the scheme, as a central hub is to be linked to Angel Road Station. As will as this, bus and rail routes will be connected to the Liverpool Street and Stratford area.
