New primary school places for Enfield
Around 90 new places will be offered for reception aged children in two schools in Enfield. Both Edmonton County in Bury Street and ARK John Keats Academy will have places available for children in their reception classes.
ARK John Keats Academy will soon be opening its doors for 60 children in its reception class. The school is on Bell Lane on the site that was formerly Oasis Hadley. The facility is sponsored by ARK schools, which is an organisation that runs a total of 18 schools. Many of the ARK schools receive good or outstanding in Ofsted inspections.
The secondary phase of the Academy will open in September 2014. This will see 180 year sevens admitted, every year the school will see a new reception class and a new year seven class admitted until it meets capacity. The school has space for 900 secondary school pupils and 420 primary school pupils.
Edmonton County is undergoing an expansion that will see spaces created for 30 reception children in January 2014 and children aged between three and 19. The extension will include new play areas, classrooms and additional facilities for both secondary and reception children. The extension is part of the £25 million Primary Expansion Programme funded by Enfield Council.
Once the expansion is completed the full capacity of the school will see spaces for 1,650 secondary school pupils and 420 primary school pupils. The refurbishment is intended to create a school building suited for all the age groups that will be educated there.
Councillor Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council's cabinet member for Children and Young People, said: "This is good news as we are working hard with our partners to ensure there are enough primary school places in the areas where we need them the most.
"Enfield Council is investing £25 million improving schools in the first phase of the primary expansion programme and we are now planning a second investment phase to tackle more school expansions so that our children can enjoy high quality education in safe, secure and good facilities."
