Area Comments
The former site of Tyburn Tree, the famous execution area, Marble Arch marks the junction between several parts of London and the areas around it are hugely diverse in their property offerings. Living and working in the Marble Arch area gives access to virtually everything great about London.
Actually living on Marble Arch is tricky, and not just because it's basically a roundabout. Many of the huge properties to the north are occupied by large corporations and public bodies (the FA has some of its headquarters around here). To the east is Oxford St which spills into Marylebone and to the south, Park Lane. In all of these areas, the houses (virtually nonexistent in the Park Lane area and scanty in Marylebone) and flats (quite plentiful) are very expensive and exclusive. Places to live become more accessible as one goes North, up the Edgware Road, towards the Westway and beyond into the Maida Vale/Kilburn area. To the West lies Hyde Park, and beyond it, Bayswater, another lovely area where there are plenty of flats, but few houses available at any one time.
The Marble Arch area is slap bang in the middle of London's best places. Shopping is fantastic on Oxford Street and its environs. There are cinemas, restaurants and bars galore, and the massive open green of Hyde Park, or to the north, Regent's Park, offer excellent places to walk.
There are such a huge variety of places around Marble Arch that advice on where to look for property is general. The flats of Park Lane are magnificent - and beyond it, in Brook Street and the like, similarly so and priced accordingly. In the north of Oxford St, Marylebone offers beautiful and genteel living in places like Wigmore St, but again, heavily priced. Bayswater is a good bet for flats which are still steep, but affordable. North, into the Edgware Road area, is the best bet for anyone on any kind of budget. But all areas around here - with its amazing facilities and position - are difficult to find and much sought after.
