History of Marble Arch
The landmark arch that this region is known for was built in 1825 and designed by architect John Nash. It served as a ceremonial entrance to Buckingham Palace and was only used by members of the royal family and the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery.
When the east range of the palace was built in 1850, the arch was dismantled and moved to its current location, serving as an entrance to Hyde Park and housing the royal constables who patrolled the park at the time.
