Area Feature
Wembley is so closely linked to the stadium that bears its name it is impossible to talk about the area without discussing the 90,000-seat behemoth first.
Reopened in 2007 after being completely rebuilt, Wembley Stadium is the second-largest sporting arena in Europe and serves as the home of the England football team.
It also hosts several showpiece football matches - including the FA Cup final every year and last year's Champions League final - as well as major music concerts.
Some of the artists to have performed here since 2007 include George Michael, Take That and Coldplay.
Of course, the stadium had a long history before its demolition in 2003, providing the stage for England's 1966 World Cup triumph and the huge Live Aid charity concert in 1985.
It also played a major role in the 1948 Olympic Games and will do so again next year when the Olympics return to London.
Next door is Wembley Arena, a much-loved indoor space for music, comedy and sport that has seen the likes of The Beatles, Beyonce and Sir Cliff Richard perform on its stage.
The 12,000-seat arena was originally built as Empire Pool for the 1934 Empire Games and hosted the swimming events.
As well as its two world-class sport and entertainment venues, this area of the London borough of Brent has a wealth of top quality restaurants, designer clothes outlets and excellent properties to rent.
Wembley is also home to the biggest Sunday market in England, which has been drawing huge crowds for more than 30 years.
There is parking for over 3,000 cars and upwards of 500 stalls selling everything from fresh produce and household items to toys, electrical goods and the latest clothes.
A fantastic food court area is also there, providing delights from around the world.
For home furnishings there is a big Ikea right in the heart of Wembley too.
In terms of transport, the area is well served by the London Underground and is just a short drive away from the capital's major ring road, the M25.
Journeys to the West End take less than 20 minutes on the Tube, while the many buses on offer can whisk visitors and residents all over the city.
On top of all that, Brent Council is engaged in a series of massive regeneration projects in Wembley.
One of these is the development of Brent Civic Centre, a completely new structure that will eventually house up to 2,000 Brent Council staff and councillors.
Construction started last year on this nine-storey building and it is due for completion in 2013.
New apartment blocks are springing up in the area, while the public transport infrastructure has been greatly improved in recent years.
This is an area on the up and is well worth investigating by people looking for property to rent in the capital.
