Rub shoulders with the rich in Marble Arch
Central London attracts people from all walks of life and Marble Arch is no exception. Home to some of the most expensive houses in the city along with one of the most pricey streets - Park Lane - it's absolutely perfect, location-wise.
Housing
Emerging from the Tube station onto Oxford Street complete with KFC and other fast food outlets, you might wonder what the fuss is about. Just a couple of roads away, however, you'll find Great Cumberland Place and Bryanston Square, complete with identically immaculate flats and houses which are gorgeous to look at. With Regent's Park and Hyde Park within walking distance along with the tree-lined streets, you'll find it hard to believe you're in the middle of London.
It's also difficult to ignore the convenience of the location. If you like to drive, you can be pretty much anywhere in London within just 25 minutes, traffic permitting. But this doesn't come cheap, and some properties cost more than £2,000 per weekly rental in the area. As a result, you're likely to see your fair share of celebrities. Madonna and Guy Richie have been known to frequent the area, while singing superstar Lulu certainly thinks the location is something to shout about. "Although I'm right in the centre of the city it is also very green. I love walking around the area, it's how I get my exercise," she wrote in the Mail.
Thankfully, those wishing to rub shoulders with the rich and famous needn't pay out such a hefty bill. Rentals are available from around £325 a week, although be prepared to forego the concierge, garden and security you'll get with one of the luxury properties.
Places to eat, things to do
Marble Arch is named for its Carrara marble monument which originally served as an entrance to Buckingham Palace. Now situated at the far end of Edgware Road, Westminster, it's become an incredibly popular tourist attraction.
As such, you'll be hard-pressed to find a type of restaurant, bar or amenity that doesn't exist within walking distance. Edgware Road itself is home to some fantastic Lebanese eateries, while Halepi, a Greek restaurant that has existed in the same place for 40 years, also comes highly recommended. Those seeking entertainment will find a conveniently-located Odeon cinema, surrounded by a fantastic collection of pubs and bars, sure to suit a plethora of tastes. Being in Central London, the area is always vibrant, energetic and trendy.
Transport
The Marble Arch Tube station is itself served by the Central Line, which takes commuters across London and as far as Essex. Bond Street and Oxford Circus are also within walking distance, allowing access to the Jubilee, Bakerloo and Victoria lines. For those who might need to make use of them, London's army of buses and taxis orbit the area, providing easy transportation across the city for non-motorists.
But while we can talk about the cosmopolitan and exotic nature of the area all day, there's no substitute for taking a look yourself. Try it - we guarantee you'll fall in love.
