Area Comments
Totteridge is usually paired with Whetstone, both in popular imagination and in terms of property. It's a large Northern suburb which offers some of the best places to live around and a real village atmosphere. Yes, this is an oft-used phrase but anywhere with a village green, and a millennium-old yew in a churchyard surely qualifies. Both Totteridge and Whetstone are wonderful residential locations, partly because of their peaceful and friendly nature, and partly because of truly fabulous facilities.
Totteridge offers a bustling local community whether you include Whetstone or not. In Whetstone - more suburban - there's a good, busy shopping parade, as well as some popular high street restaurants and cafes. In Totteridge there are lovely pubs and friendly local restaurants.
The area is amply provided with excellent green space. Golf courses include the North Middlesex Golf Course, the village green and its ponds, a common, two nature reserves, Whetstone Stray, Swan Lane and Brook Farm, as well as the very popular Dollis Valley Green Walk. Of course where there's this much open space there's people who want to use it, and Totteridge is fantastic for sports, with tennis and cricket and other sports played nearby, as well as the Tennis and Squash club with its many courts, pool and gym. Excellent community facilities include the brilliant All Saints Arts Centre, which has classes in anything you can name, puts on plays, dances etc. There are other centres and many societies, a thriving village hall ... honestly, there's more going on in Totteridge and Whetstone than you can easily list.
With Whetstone being a more suburban area, it offers the more affordable housing. There are some reasonable apartment blocks here along the high road, but some classy little streets as well with semis and detached properties from the Victorian period, many with garages and good gardens, and some new build houses as well.
Between Totteridge and Whetstone are streets of reasonable (relatively) midwar semis and detached houses as well as some flats. But Totteridge itself is a true village, one of the only such in London's vicinity, and its houses are absolutely gorgeous. Victorian and Edwardian detached houses, as well as - other, larger, detached houses, some of up to nine bedrooms - are the main feature of the little roads running off the Village high road. There are some conversions here but even these are large and imposing. Totteridge is a wonderful, beautiful little village, and its housing befits it: large, opulent, and priced accordingly.

Totteridge: A taste of LA luxury
Totteridge may not have the name recognition of some of London’s more prestigious central areas, but it is still a highly pleasant and affluent suburb. In fact, some have dubbed it ‘London’s Beverly Hills’, since N20 has been found to be London’s richest postcode. It is remarkably leafy and spacious for an area within ten miles of the city centre.
