Bexley among London's top ten friendliest boroughs
The London borough of Bexley has been named as one of the top ten friendliest parts of the city, second only to Havering in the north-east of the capital.
In a survey by Experian, some 85.6 per cent of the borough's residents said they feel confident that their neighbours will look out for them.
It tied in second place with Kensington and Chelsea, where the same percentage of people believe their neighbours can be relied upon in times of trouble.
Other boroughs in the top ten were Bromley, Sutton, Richmond-upon-Thames, Kingston-upon-Thames, Barnet, Harrow and Brent.
One thing to note from the survey is that it appears to be the suburbs of London that score the highest for neighbourliness, with only one Central London borough making the top ten.
However, Experian pointed out that even among the lowest ranking boroughs, the majority of people do claim that their neighbours look out for them.
"Britons in general are very positive about the neighbourliness of their own area," said a spokesperson for the credit agency.
The results of the research could be welcomed by those seeking property to rent in Bexleyheath, Blackfen, Abbey Wood and other areas of Bexley.
The borough shares borders with Bromley, Greenwich, Havering and Barking and Dagenham and falls within the Thames Gateway - an area that has been singled out as a priority for regeneration.
There are many things that attract residents to the area, including its large open spaces, its historic buildings and its state-of-the-art leisure centres.
It is the only London borough not to have a Tube, tram or light rail link, and the local council's Invest Bexley Board is lobbying for a North Bexley Transit system across the borough.
It is also calling for a Docklands Light Railway extension to Thamesmead and for the original Crossrail proposals to be reinstated, bringing Crossrail through the borough to Ebbsfleet.
