Area Comments
One of the best places to bring up a family in the London area, Eltham is a relaxed and friendly suburb. It is where our offices are located.
The town itself - and Eltham is really a small town rather than a village - provides a great mix of shops. There are all the usual suspects, plus a few nice little locally owned stores. There are some good pubs and bars in the centre, as well as some popular local restaurants regarded as great finds by those who live here, as well as the big high street offerings - or it's a very simple excursion to Greenwich, Blackheath or Bexley if you want a wider choice.
The area is surrounded by parks and woodland, and there's a lot of interest in sports locally. Plenty of good schools are in the vicinity at all levels. Landmarks include the great Eltham Palace and Well Hall.
The property here is legendary for its combination of spec and value. Houses of great size, most with good gardens, are everywhere. This is a place mostly of mid-war suburban development, but there are excellent Edwardian and Victorian houses in areas like the Corbett Estate (one of the best places to be). Big family houses abut the nearby golf course, and if you make your way a little east to Oxleas Woods (one of the oldest woodlands in London and a great part of the Green Chain Walk) some very impressive executive houses are found.
