Hounslow: New affordable housing scheme launched in the borough
Hounslow Council have unveiled a new scheme aimed at producing affordable housing for people who live in the area.
A first ever shared ownership scheme in the borough has been unveiled by the council, and is set to give struggling families a helping hand onto the property ladder.
The apartments are predominantly two-bed homes, which have been marketed as part of the first phase of the Manor Lane Estate regeneration scheme in Feltham.
Under the programme, those who are eligible for the housing would be able to buy a 45 per cent share in the new homes.
According to the council, this would mean that the properties are affordable for people on a wage as low as £33,000.
Commenting on the developments, councillor Steve Curran, cabinet member for housing, planning and regeneration at the council, said: “These are the first shared ownership homes we have built, and it’s a much needed boost for local families looking to find affordable homes.
“When we decided to begin work on the estate, we wanted to make sure we were getting a good mix of residents, with social rented, private and affordable housing to buy."
He added that shared ownership homes were a more affordable alternative for many low-income families and helped to bridge the gap between social renting and private ownership.
The homes are available to people living or working in the borough of Hounslow, with household incomes of between £33,000 and £66,000.
The council also announced that those living in existing homes on Manor Lane will be moving into new homes on the estate this month as part of the first phase of the regeneration.
Around ten social-rented houses and 36 private sale units will be built on site as part of the second phase.
Last month, Hounslow Council signed an agreement with developers Barratt London and Wilson Bowden to construct a mixed-use scheme in the centre of the high street as part of the first major development in the high street for over 20 years.
