One of the best known of the Western suburbs of London, Brentford is a mix of a commuter town and county town, and with rapid regeneration has fast become a prime choice for many buyers.
Far to the West of London, Brentford is just inside London but is also part of Middlesex. It is as near a perfect blend of country and town as possible, but for years languished a little behind other commuter belt towns as generation took its time to take hold. However, this regeneration has now caught up, and in Brenford's once-staid centre there are new riverside warehouse developments, and a huge investment in the town's centre has brought the best of designers and big names in.
Partly this regeneration has been steered by the greater numbers of people seeking to move from the expense of Central London into an area with easy access to town and the West - but partly of course it has served to attract them as well.
Those moving into Brentford now are moving to a riverside area with street after street of competitively priced Victorian terraces, although if you look hard and fast you may find detached cottages as well. There are also excellent riverside developments of apartments for the affluent young professional.
Though nightlife in Brentford was at one time somewhat lacking, the regeneration and the influx of people looking for better deals than those in town have meant a big increase in the level and number of restaurants, cafes and bars. Brentford used to be known mainly for its local pubs, and most of these friendly locals are still here, even if they do compete with bars and restaurants for clientele.
Local facilities are excellent. Huge parks, including Syon Park, are right nearby, and Kew and Richmond are a quick trip both for greenery and for shopping. The river provides excellent resources as well, with the Grand Union Canal a leisure spot.
Brentford's former reputation as a safe, but perhaps dated, place to be are long in the past. This is now a thriving, bustling and aspirational place to live, and the properties here are fetching good - though not by any means bank-breaking - prices.
