Area Comments
The Richmond area isn't exactly famous for its cheapness, with many regions in the top levels of upscale London. But Whitton is the most cost-effective and competitive of the lot - although like everything else, that may change.
The Chertsey Road, which runs alongside Whitton, is the main determiner of prices in the area. This is a region of mostly midwar semis, excellent 1930s houses with good gardens, most of good size, and there are some detached houses from this period as well. There are however some excellent little terraces of the pretty 19th Century workers' cottages that one sees all over London in little rows, especially near the Baptist Church near Hounslow Road. There are also some low-rise apartments built in the middle of the 20th Century.
Whitton is well positioned for getting to the southwest, but of course its position to the west of Srawberry hill and a little further away from the river also makes it a little less desirable than many areas of Richmond. This is relative, however - it's still a very desirable area of London, still close to the river and close to some excellent green spaces - Hounslow Heath and the large Fulwell Golf Course are nearby, and the area is right next to the lovely Crane Park nature reserve - as well as amid some excellent school territory. The little centre is very well served by a wide variety of shops and local businesses, catering to most needs, and has a good spread of restaurants and pubs in the vicinity.
If you like St Margarets or Ham, but would like to spend a little less money, then Whitton is an excellent place to look.
