Whitton High Street artist-in-residence sought
Art enthusiasts living in property to rent in Whitton may be interested to hear Richmond council is looking for somebody to transform an empty shop on the local high street into a community studio.
Funded by the council's Uplift Programme, set up to revitalise and rejuvenate parts of the area, the new artist-in-residence scheme aims to "create work that is inspired by local memories, hopes and aspirations".
Over the course of a month from the end of November, the chosen artist will deliver workshops and activity programmes to encourage local people of all ages to come in and take part.
He or she will also be handed a £5,000 fee with additional monies available for materials, thanks to the Mayor's Outer London fund.
Councillor Pamela Fleming, Richmond Council cabinet member for community, business and culture, said Whitton residents have made it clear in recent surveys they would like to celebrate and express the identity of their local area.
She continued: "This is an exciting opportunity that will not only use art and culture to animate the town centre, but it will give local people a platform to be creative and be inspired by the place in which they live.
"We are looking for an artist who will be able to channel all this creativity and work with local people to capture and promote an identity for the future of Whitton."
Applicants for the role of Whitton artist-in-residence should submit a brief proposal along with a CV, artist's statement and three examples of? images of their work to Richmond Council by October 31st.
