Government 'recognises importance of renting'
The government now recognises the important role the private UK rental sector plays in filling the housing gap, it has been claimed.
Ian Potter, operations manager of the Association of Residential Letting Agents, said the industry has a vital role to play in the future of UK housing - with it previously being reported the ambition of Britons to own their own home is waning as they adopt an increasingly European lifestyle.
However, he added mortgage finance may still be preventing some landlords from entering the market.
"Unless the government frees up further buy-to-let lending for responsible landlords who recognise the importance of investment in residential property, then the UK is going to struggle to house future generations," Mr Potter urged.
The government recently unveiled a new package of measures concerning the rental sector, including the launch of a help line for tenants wishing to receive advice and a feedback website where they could comment on their experience of their landlord and accommodation.
Such news may offer peace of mind to people currently looking for flats to rent in Eltham or another part pf London.
