Pushed on by the success of its close neighbour Brockley, Ladywell, which shares many of the same resources, is fast becoming a centre of popularity in its own right.
Halfway between the areas of Lewisham and Catford, Ladywell sits just across from Brockley. It gets its relaxed and leafy character from being in the midst of some great parks, including Hilly Fields to its north and west. It's a quiet area, with its little village centre focusing on the rail station, and it's a peaceful place to live. Whilst it's not as filled with funky places to eat and drink as Brockley, it's so close as to make this a small residential area alongside the latter, using Brockley, as well as Lewisham and Catford's many resources whilst maintaining its existence as a residential stronghold, although there are some good nearby pubs and a few popular restaurants a couple of minutes' walk away. Ladywell's main resource is, famously, the Ladywell Baths, one of the oldest and most magnificent of South London's pools.
There's a good mix of houses in the Ladywell area; its wide streets are home to some lovely Victorian terraces with spacious conversions as well as 1930s and 40s semis, and it also contains some newer developments aimed at the first time buyer.
Ladywell used to be a spring, a holy place, and the area still feels preternaturally peaceful and quiet off the main roads. Life here is very easy, with nightlife, great eating and drinking just a hop away.
