A relaxed suburb near to another relatively undiscovered gem, Brockley, Crofton Park is well worth a look for a larger family home or simply to get your first step on the ladder without breaking the bank.
Between Brockley and Honor Oak, Crofton Park sits amid a relatively green and open area. It borders Ladywell Fields and is close to Blythe Hill Fields. Good views of the city are to be had from many properties.
Local amenities include a great selection of restaurants, bars and cafes both here and in Brockley. The area also boasts some great schools, with a large number of primaries close by, and Crofton School, the local secondary, has just has a large amount of money poured into its resources. There are good local stores and it's a simple matter to get further afield to get to larger shops.
Many of the larger properties here - there are roads thick with tall, three and four storey Victorian houses, some of them with six or seven bedrooms - have been subdivided into spacious apartments. The great size of these buildings means that even flats have high ceilings and large rooms. Properties that resisted this subdivision are amongst the most desirable in the area, naturally enough. North of Crofton Road mid-war semis and neat bungalows are found, with the south of this main thoroughfare being more sought after, larger semis and large detached houses. Streets south of Crofton Road are wide and quiet, leafy and green and very relaxing.
This is a very desirable yet cost-effective way of getting into the heart of the Hilly Fields/Ladywell area, with large and well appointed properties aplenty if you move fast.
