Britons 'spending big to entertain at home'
As Britons attempt to save cash by going out less, 57 per cent of paid-for entertainment is now consumed inside the home, new research has found.
The study by Abbey also revealed that such "in-tertaining" can save Britons £3.9 billion every month, equating to £89 per person.
In addition, each month has seen Britons consume 63 million takeaways rather than going for a meal at a pub or restaurant, while the average worker now spends half of their holiday entitlement at home.
Such news may be of interest to people looking for flats to rent in Eltham or another part of London in order to save the money it would cost for a mortgage.
Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, said: "The recession has made people far savvier when it comes to saving money and millions of us have worked out that in-tertaining is a great way to cut back without missing out."
Scottish news provider the Press and Journal recently reported that more people are also entertaining friends and family at home by cooking for them.
