Wandsworth urges residents to recycle after the festive period
Wandsworth Council is urging residents to recycle rubbish following the festive period. The council has asked that people take steps to properly recycle wrapping paper, cards, drinks cans, glass bottles and plastics to reduce the amount of refuse that is sent to landfill in the new year.
Wandsworth has doorstep recycling services in place, which make recycling rubbish much easier. The service provides clear recycling sacks delivered to homes - more sacks can be ordered through the council's website - for all recyclable products to be put in. These sacks are then collected as other rubbish is.
Those that do not have doorstep recycling services, such as people living in blocks of flats, can dispose of their recyclables in the communal recycling banks that have been installed in the housing estates across the borough.
As well as the usual recyclables, the council is also collecting real Christmas trees free of charge. The trees will be collected as part of the council's usual refuse services and will be shredded to be turned into compost.
To have trees picked up, residents should ensure all decorations, stands and pots have been removed beforehand. The trees will be picked up from people's front gardens on the days their rubbish and recycling is collected between Monday January 5th and Friday January 16th.
Trees should be placed in the front garden alongside any exterior bins for collection. Residents without front gardens can put them on the pavement outside their home but are warned that the trees should not cause an obstruction. The trees should also not be put out any earlier than 6.30pm on the day before collection.
Those who live in blocks of flats should put their Christmas trees near the exterior bin store, ensuring access is not blocked and these will also be collected for recycling.
If anyone has any questions concerning refuse collection or recycling, more information is available on the Wandsworth Council website.
