Wandsworth Council names possible cycle hire locations
Boris bikes have been a huge hit with Londoners and it is said that lettings in areas close to the docking stations have become increasingly popular, especially in areas where bus and train connections are lacking.
So it's entirely possible that more people will be seeking property to rent in Wandsworth in the near future, with docking stations set to be installed across the borough in a number of key locations.
Wandsworth Council has just published a map showing the potential spots for bikes under the Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme, which have been selected by Transport for London with the help of local residents who took part in a public consultation.
Many of these will be located in Battersea, which although fairly well served by buses and overground train stations does not currently have a link to the Tube network.
Docking stations around Clapham Junction have also been proposed. The train station is a major hub for overground trains both into Central London and out to the suburbs. But again, residents have no handy Tube Stations in this area.
It s hoped that the introduction of Boris bikes across Wandsworth will provide locals with more transport options, whether they are commuting across the city or simply travelling around the borough for leisure purposes.
Wandsworth Council leader Ravi Govindia said: "It's fantastic to see this exciting project moving forward. We've fought long and hard to secure this expansion and we will continue to press for a borough-wide roll out in the months ahead. The jobs not finished until every household in Wandsworth is covered by this scheme."
He added: "Boris bikes will help more people to take up cycling, reduce car use and ease congestion on our buses, Tubes and trains. The bikes are convenient, fun, help reduce air pollution and are much cheaper than other forms of public transport. They will be a great addition to our transport system."
