Buy-to-let sector assessed
The majority of landlords who rent their properties as part of long-term investment plans have done well in recent months, despite the recession, according to an industry expert.
Oliver Romain, managing director of the Buy-to-Let Show said the sector has remained strong in a tough climate, but there have been "winners and losers".
Residents of property to rent in Shoreditch and flats to rent in Wandsworth are likely to be among those who have benefitted from a property price drop, as rents across the UK are generally down year-on-year due to an oversupply of rented housing.
However, a number of private landlords' fingers have been burnt by their purchases, with Mr Romain suggesting that some private landlords have not been able to make enough money from rents to cover their mortgage payments.
Letting a property has become an increasingly attractive option for many homeowners since the onset of the financial crisis - this is especially the case for people who have not had any joy selling their home in the current climate.
