Wandsworth have started on massive road repairs for safer motoring
In just a month, Wandsworth's repair teams have vastly improved the quality of the roads throughout the borough. Over one thousand potholes have been repaired since the repair teams started the massive road improvement project last month.
Work has so far been performed on public roadways throughout West Putney, Furzedown, St Mary's Park, Southfields and Wandsworth Common. A total of 1,102 potholes have been repaired on these roads since the beginning of May, benefitting residents and visitors to the area.
Throughout July the three road repair teams will begin work in Northcote, Queenstown and Shaftesbury in order to repair further road damage.
Another three teams have also begun to perform repairs to pavements in order to make them safer for pedestrians. Bedford and Latchmere received improvements and repairs to the pavements throughout May, and further work has been done this month in Nightingale, Earlsfield and West Hill. Further work will begin in July throughout Fairfield, Balham and Thamesfield.
The council intends to inspect all the roads and pavements throughout the borough in order to provide all necessary repairs and to improve the area. The project will oversee the total resurfacing of a number of highly damaged roads to ensure they are up to standard. Some areas will also receive fully re-laid pavements in a bid to make them safer for pedestrians.
The repair budget has been increased to £6.4 million this year following a very harsh winter that caused unusually high levels of damage to roads and pavements. The increased budget will allow the six repair crews to complete repairs throughout every ward as the year goes on. Urgent repairs are also set to be dealt with as soon as possible.
Residents will be informed of any and all repair works that are set to be undergone within their area.
